Fundraising Tips

As you get started with raising your support we have included a few fundraising tips which will help you be successful.

Relax

Events like RIDE 2012 have become widely accepted by people in North America over the last 20 years. Every year, family members and friends support each other in event like Ride 2012. So don’t be shy about asking those you share your life with to support you in a cause you believe in.

Personalize

While your friends and family may ‘get’ the whole event-based donation thing, they still want you to make it personal for them. This can be through email, a letter, on the phone, or over coffee, just remember it has to be directed to the specific person you are asking to partner with you. Our online system will help you personalize e-mails and then give your friend an online link so they can act in the moment.

Go Online

The Ride 2012 website is connected with some of the best online fundraising tools for sharing the cause and asking for support. Use these tools and connect them with your Facebook page. One of the best ways to reach out to friends and family for support is to use your Facebook page. Now you can link your profile on Ride 2012 directly to your profile page, allowing people to donate to you right from Facebook!

There is even a thermometer on Facebook that will reflect your fundraising progress. We also recommend that you stay up-to-date on our latest and greatest event and program information by joining the Ride 2012 Facebook Group.

Set an Example

Show your sponsors that you believe in the cause with your own hard earned money. You are asking them to give, so show them you are willing to give too. Give to yourself first. Give for the right reasons, but don’t give anonymously – it helps when the people you ask see, first hand. So set the tone for all your supporters and give generously. It will do your heart good and encourage your donors.

Start Early

Don’t wait to be in the mood to ask people for money. That mood isn’t likely going to hit you anytime soon. Begin now. Draft your ask letter using our templates, identify your 30-40 prospects you want to hit up, send a test email to yourself to be sure everything works good and just begin. Send three personal emails by the end of the day today.

Do it as Team

Your team maybe those riding with you on Ride 2012 which is great to work together.  But your team is also your small group and church.  If you are riding as the ambassador rider for your church, ask the church to help you raise funds.  Some great ideas are church bake sales, garage sales, bbq’s and even car washes.
