Vancouver Church Plant:

The Downtown Eastside (DTES) in Vancouver is in a beautiful, historical neighbourhood. It has a long history of people living together in a dynamic and diverse community. Along with its fascinating story of immigration, industry and development, there is also a long history of extreme poverty, high drug use, a high ratio of people with mental illness, and significant criminal activity. All of which contribute to disenfranchisement, marginalization, and horrible human suffering. Many singles, couples and families find themselves rejected by society and struggling to survive. The Downtown Eastside is an inner city neighborhood with overwhelming social and spiritual needs.

This project will differ from a downtown mission in that it will be an identifiable church community seeking to nurture and disciple holistically.  Peoples’ physical, social and spiritual needs will be addressed via the building of a compassionate, inclusive and justice oriented community. A community which will engage the arts, practice the sacraments, challenge structures which oppress and dehumanize, and preach the gospel.  We will embrace people in their brokenness and seek transformation personally and corporately.
